we’ve been tryin we’ve been tryin to cut out the distance between us to cut out the distance between us we keep denying we keep denying the common ground between us the common ground between us this is how we triumph or this is how we fall apart this is how we triumph or this is how we fall apart heir to the throne lord of today can’t leave well enough alone even though you own all you survey this is how we triumph or this is how we fall apart this is how we triumph or this is how we fall apart all for one or one for all (all for one for one or one for all) a sirens’ song or a mating call all for one or one for all (all for one or one for all) how the swan song’s ‘cry every black’ning church appalls’

I caught a glimpse of what of what I really couldn’t say it must have been the light it must have been the time of day a woman standing on clouds floating over fields of may and time felt newly lived in but a thousand years I dreamed away and she spoke to me slowly I was subatomic I was feeling very small I heard the groaning of I heard the growing of it all and she spoke to me slowly

on the steps of the porch of your father’s house I am contemplating my day and the only one who’s moving through this world the same is me is standing inches away I wouldn’t mind, no I, I wouldn’t mind sitting next to you I wouldn’t mind, no I, I wouldn’t mind holding hands with a you in the hour that my focus was hopelessly broken I wasn’t thinking it through my sweet loss of reason was on trial for treason i’d betray just for you I wasn’t trying, no I, I wasn’t tryin to be the heroic fool I wasn’t trying, no I, I wasn’t tryin to be in love with you but the stars offered you a way to evade- the mundane streets, the dull esplanade, the unquiet mind, the false calvacade, the comfortable grind, the pedestrian trade— on the steppes of the plains the invisible hordes they will carry us away and the nameless numbers of slumbered lovers they will wake themselves today Can’t keep from crying, no I, can’t keep from crying, what else can I do? Can’t keep from crying, no I, can’t keep from crying, I am run right through ‘cause the stars offered you a way to evade- the mundane streets, the dull esplanade, the unquiet mind, the false calvacade, the comfortable grind, the pedestrian trade—

Evalyn 03:16
evalyn with your crown do you think you’re better? all our hopes go with you will you make it better? evalyn with a frown your sweet head is heavy throw your throne to the fire step out from your portrait evalyn bury them and divine an order you are all, you the star on the stage of England evalyn of the age that is legendary shame on us what would you say? fallen out of favor if you hadn’t come to us we would need to make you up are you sad to be the one? do you need to see how lonely we can be without your eyes on us? evalyn without sin do you think you’re better? velvetine, guilty crime you deserve the former raise a glass to what is past and get on with the business of evalyn just pretend you’re not any better if you hadn’t come to us we would need to make you up are you sad to be the one? do you need to see how lonely we can be without your eyes on us? evalyn with your crown do you think you’re better? all our hopes go with you will you make it better? evalyn bury them on the stage of England throw your throne to the fire and divine an order if you hadn’t come to us we would need to make you up are you sad to be the one? do you need to see how lonely we can be without your eyes on us? evalyn with your crown step out from your portrait

You started telling stories about when we were young But you don’t have all your facts straight you don’t have even one Whatever became of loyalty? You sold your friends out for the royalties You can’t even meet my gaze but you act like you’re completely amazed you can’t give back what you already took you can’t take back what you wrote in your book Whatever became of compassion? When did a kiss turn into a shove? Whatever became of honesty? Whatever became, whatever became of love? You started telling stories about when we were young But you don’t have enough distance for the truth to find the sun Whatever became of compassion? When did a kiss turn into a shove? Whatever became of honesty? Whatever became, whatever became of love?

I love it when we play, safe from a winter’s day you make to go but then you stay. I love it when you’re here keep me close and near and tell me I’ve got nothing to fear. I love it when you’re gone, but just for one song, and then you ask if I’d like to tag along. I love it when we play, safe from a winter’s day you make to go but then you stay. I love it when you’re gone, but just for one song, and then you ask if I’d like to tag along.

Solid Blue 03:52
the sky’s a solid blue and so’s my present mood I smile and breathe it in what else can I do? I cannot change what’s written in your heart I cannot change what wasn’t there from the start I float from day to day in something of a haze I count the hours of May and hope it’s just a phase There’s so many ways to distract me from you there’s so many ways to block my perfect view but this one is hard to shake, this one’s no ordinary hue this one is hard to break, this one is solid blue another color can describe me now and then but I can’t really feign any lightness in my heart I feel just the same, as when we first drifted apart cause this one is hard to shake, this one the pain is true this one is hard to break, this one is solid blue

in the waiting in the waiting room different choices different voices loom in the corner the television tugs at our attention histrionic news crowding out our fears pushy and overbearing interviews in the frozen the unmotion shrine institution for all the poor and dying cracks upon the yellow walls maps that only lead to inner trials and then a name is called unfamiliar sound it’s only the second time I recognize it’s mine i rise and follow like cattle into battle

we were independent once I know nothing could affect our ebb and flow our counterfeited ways made good copy we always stood out from the scenery this tired old sentimental song the interest came and then the interest went we gave them perfume but they lost the scent all the foggy weeks gave them some time to second guess the sentence and the crime this tired old world crusader song what we learn is what we read and watch what we sign for is why we open the latch we were predators that much I know feasting on the remnants of our foes our fabulistic ways drew people in the excess and the carnage and the sin this tired old unrebellious song once the captain gets us settled down we’ll call up all our friends and clown around and put an end to our relevancy pack up the belongings and flee this tired old Armageddon song

Who Counts 04:36
who’s counts the hours and turns sweet to sour? who’s stuck in a grind? it’s me, it’s me. who keeps a vault of other people’s faults? who likes to whine? it’s me, it’s me. who stumbles on virtue and ignores the curfew? who’s stepped out of line? it’s me, it’s me. all I did was wrong today all I did was wrong all I did was wrong today I know, I know, I know who runs from a smile yet craves it all the while? be still or beguile? it’s me, it’s me. I am so withdrawn today I am so withdrawn I’m overcome with this song today I know, I know I know who keeps a spotlight on things that don’t feel right? demand a retrial? it’s me, it’s me. who does this daily? and who’s gonna save me? sadness exiled? we’ll see we’ll see… all I did was wrong today all I did was wrong all I did was wrong today I know, I know, I know I am so withdrawn today I am so withdrawn I’m overcome with this song today I know, I know I know

‘All hands on deck!’ we hear as the CFO resigns ‘Abandon ship!’ the documents clearly cross a line the chaplain sighs, ‘Amen, amen!’ we fold our hands we’re pious men and barely living… look back on empire days when we feasted by firelight and what were we roasting, well the people who were too weak to fight we’re shipwreckers all too deaf to hear the boatman’s call but up there a man can see forever… kind thoughts go out to all of our comrades who will fall. They dream of sidewalks, carefully managed summer lawns. we ruled for a time on the salty high seas, lords of the brine, now the pundits dance on our watery graves.
