‘Here’s to you!’,
so sorry it’s belated.
May all our best moments soon be mated,
for future glory, comfortable sidewalks,
careless dinners, mild and toothless remarks.
Confused to meet you, the bone and the tissue,
of our last conversation, we caused a sensation.
Well, only for an afternoon, let it go and pretty soon,
found a lost and comely tune of rhyme and rose-stained love divine:
These are the times,
these are the times.
Armies attending, the speech is never ending,
Valedictorian, sad and rhetorical,
sharpens the sense of, the simple needs of simple love,
open arms and laughter, happy ever after.
The fall of empire, the dance around the campfire,
the photographic nightmare, the casual arrangement,
of manageable torture, no risk before the venture,
no fear before the battle, no strength to face our miserable crimes:
These are the times,
these are the times.
